It’s on September 16 that, for the first time in Portugal, a film festival will provide audiodescription. This groundbreaking initiative comes by the hand of the Arroios Film Festival, in a single session starting at 7 pm in the auditorium of the Escola Secundária de Camões.
The audiodescription service allows the visually impaired to percieve what is happening on the screen in a full and autonomous way. In audiodescription, the audio descriptor describes all the information that is exclusively passed through visual means, such as the physical description of the characters, environments and plans used in the film. This extra information is inserted by the audio-writer in the audio pauses of the film and also during the dialogues.
It is the first time that a film festival in Portugal has this feature available. The seat limit with audiodescription for this single session – which takes place on September 16, at 7:00 p.m., in the auditorium of the Escola Secundária de Camões – is of 10 people. Booking in advance is required for these seats through the phone number 967 092 558.
The auditorium of the Escola Secundária de Camões – which is also accessible to people with reduced mobility – hosts the Arroios Film Festival between the 9th and the 16th of September. Always under the theme of inclusion, the festival now returns to a second edition with several new features such as – in addition to the short films – a side program that includes gastronomy, music and creative writing.
