Jardim Henrique Lopes de Mendonça

Praça José Fontana

Located in front of the Escola Secundária de Camões, this garden, from the second half of the 19th century, was named in 1937 after Henrique Lopes de Mendonça, honoring the writer, poet and playwright who wrote the lyrics of the Portuguese National Anthem. It has a bandstand from 1912, a drinking fountain and two statues: a bust of José Fontana, by João Cutileiro, and a stone and bronze statue with the bust of Henrique Lopes de Mendonça. With an area of 0.47 hectares, it has a kiosk-terrace, a water fountain, a lake and a playground.
